Virginia Panel Corporation (VPC) foresees many application areas that will have the potential to utilize the PXI standard. Military programs, telecommunications, avionics, and other industries will all have test requirements that can be managed more effectively by the enhanced price/performance ratio of PXI. There are always challenges associated with any test platform and PXI is no exception. VPC has developed several new Mass InterConnect Solutions that specifically address those challenges. Due to the variety of chassis configurations for PXI, unique mounting hardware has been developed for each chassis. VPC's Mass InterConnect Solutions now include 5U Vertical Hinged Mounting Frames that attach directly to the chassis with flanges or can be rack mounted to suit the application. The latest mounting frame design supports both 3U and 6U cards and allows easy access to the PXI cards. In order to build PXI interconnect cable assemblies, VPC had to identify the various PXI front panel connectors and their configurations. This information is critical when designing interconnects for serviceability without signal quality degradation. To stay current with all PXI instruments and to provide an easy method for selecting a Mass Interconnect Solution, an on-line PXI Cable Assembly Configurator was developed. This configurator helps select the cable assembly that is designed for the PXI card and provides the mating connector information. To help support the growing demand of PXI applications, VPC has developed a dedicated PXI catalog, titled PXInterConnect. The catalog presents an easy step-by-step method for selecting PXI Mass InterConnect solutions. Virginia Panel Corporation looks forward to the future challenges PXI will present.
