GOEPEL electronic focuses on the functional test of electronic control units (ECUs) in automotive electronics as well as Boundary Scan test for telecommunications and industrial activities. Especially, in the field of automotive test a complete range of specific PXI-components has been developed, e.g. arbitrary telegram generators and communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, K-line). Automotive electronics became a very important segment in electronic test within the last years, and this trend will be continued because of the constantly increasing number of ECUs in modern car concepts. In particular, networking within the car area requires new test strategies and new test devices. The synchronisation between conventional signals and communication messages makes PXI a favorite for automotive test applications. For these test tasks PXI specific resources are used, such as local bus and star trigger. For example, one can represent analogue signals, PWM signals and CAN bus messages in one chart with common time base.

I cannot see any alternative to PXI at the moment. I expect that increasing market penetration of PXI systems as well as the progress in electronic technology will permit to realize more complex and powerful PXI components within the next years. This will uncover the technical limits of CompactPCI solutions. The PXI technology will also advance into classic areas of GPIB or VXI applications.
